The Great Kindness Challenge

Next week, from January 26th to January 30th Athlone Students will be participating in The Great Kindness Challenge. This is an international initiative to foster the believe that kindness is strength and has the power to change the world for good! During this week students will be working toward completing as many acts of kindness as possible. Each student will have a checklist with 50 acts of kindness to complete. Some students may do these individually or some of the acts may be done as a class. There will be kindness quotes on the PA in the morning, and  "Caught Being Kind" stickers will be handed out randomly to students throughout the week.

We will also be having a kindness themed spirit week.

Monday January 26th - Tied Together by Kindness - wear a tie

Tuesday January 27th - Team Kindness - wear sports attire

Wednesday January 28th - Crazy for Kindness - wear crazy clothes or have crazy hair

Thursday January 29th - Peace, Love and Kindness - dress as a hippie

Friday January 30th - Kindness Rocks - dress as a rock star

Our Friday afternoon TAG activity will see our school working to help win The Guinness World Record for the largest collage of cut-out handprints.

Looking forward to seeing the power of kindness at work next week, and into the future here at Athlone School!

Kids in the Know

Michelle Laing, the school guidance counselor, will be visiting classrooms and teaching our students various aspects of personal safety using the Kids in the Know program. You will receive a letter home when she is ready to visit your child's classroom. The Kids in the Know program was created to help kids become assertive and self-aware when dealing with issues that affect their person.

Of course, we encourage all parents to keep open lines of communication with their children too .

I am including a couple of links in this post. These links lead to sites that have lots of useful information for parents about raising children and dealing with sensitive subjects.

(On the right hand side is the resource link section that provides a direct link to the Triple P website (as well as lots of other stuff). The Triple P program is full of excellent information and has lots of tips for parents on positive discipline.)
